Next, you’ll need a needle, safety pins or regular pins, and scissors. Of course, you’ll also need to choose which backpack you want the patch to go on.

The Sewing Process
Now we get into how to put a patch on a backpack through sewing. When choosing where to sew on patches, it’s wise to choose a place that’s away from the seam and thin to make sewing easier.
Once you decide on the spot, use pins or safety pins to hold it in place. Now, cut about 20 inches of thread and push it through the needle eye.
Leave about 3/4 of an inch after you tie a knot in the thread. Now you can start by pulling the thread through from behind the patch so you hide the knot.
Now you can start sewing, using either the whipstitch method or the running stitch method. A whipstitch will involve sewing the thread over the patch, while a running stitch pulls the thread through around the inner edge of the patch.
Either way, you will alternate pushing the thread into the patch from the outside of the backpack and then pushing the thread back up through the inside of the backpack.
Once you’ve sewn around the whole patch, push the needle from the outside to the inside of the bag, but leave a loop. Then, you push the needle back out through the bag and between the loop you just created.
Pull the thread tight and repeat a few times to secure the thread. Now you can show off your unique backpack accessories to everyone who passes by!
